My sister had taken on the loving task of baking a birthday cake for her boyfriend of four years – lemon cake, to be exact. And, she was well on her way – the cake was out of the oven, cooling, and just waiting to be taken out of the pan and iced.
Right then, disaster struck!
The Rescue Baker got the call.
Sister: “A piece of the cake is stuck to the pan. WHAT DO I DO? My boyfriend will be here in 20 minutes to pick me up for the party!!”
TRB: “Okay. Don’t panic. Have you iced the cake yet?”
Sister: “No.”
TRB: “Well, here’s what you do – Mix 1/2 cup of powdered sugar with about 1-2 tablespoons of milk and the juice of 1/2 a lemon. (Add more sugar or more liquid based upon the consistency you develop. You want it to be slightly thinner than store-bought icing). Voila. Now, pour a little of the icing on the piece of the cake that is unattached to “glue” it back together. Then, pour the rest of the icing over the cake, and no one will ever know what happened.”
The cake was saved.
