Well, “Perplexed,” TRB is sure that many bakers, like you, have embarked on the quest for the perfect chocolate chip cookie, only to find that there is one tried and true recipe that is worth the effort.
But, let’s take a step back for a second and consider what really makes the “perfect” chocolate chip cookie – is it the buttery flavor that overwhelms your palatte when you take that first bite? Is it the amount of chocolate chips in each cookie? Is it that hint of vanilla that just adds a little “something” more? No matter what your tastebuds prefer, TRB has found that only one recipe successfully achieves all three of these objectives:
Original NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Chocolate Chip Cookies
But TRB recommends two minor modifications to this near-perfect recipe:
- Instead of 1 tsp of vanilla extract, go for 1 tbsp; and
- Use a bag of Ghirardelli semi-sweet chocolate chips instead of Nestlé chocolate chips
(Granted, the good people at Nestlé will probably never forgive TRB for this suggestion, but you cannot argue with the difference in flavor!)
TRB also recommends (as always, when making cookies) that you leave the butter out on the counter for at least an hour before preparing the dough, as this will yield fluffier cookies. If the butter is melted, your cookies will bake up flat. And, no one likes a flat chocolate chip cookie!
